Yosemite National Park closed due to poor air quality

According to the National Park Service’s website, Yosemite National Park is “closed to all visitors and vehicular access due to significant smoke impacts and hazardous air quality throughout the park.”

Yosemite closed on Thursday, September 17, with no clear date for re-opening. Air quality has been degraded severely due to more than two-dozen wildfires burning around California.

The website says that all entrances and roads are closed and will reopen when conditions are safe. The park was also closed in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, shutting down on March 20 before beginning a phased re-opening on June 11.

Over 4.5 million people visited Yosemite in 2019, and ranks as the fifth-most visited National Park in the United States.
