Seven Magic Mountains, a popular art installation just south of Las Vegas off the side of Interstate 15, may be wrapping up its stay in the Nevada desert after a five year run.
Originally slated for removal in 2018, the display of neon-colored boulders made Seven Magic Mountains an iconic tourist destination and Instagram-worthy hotspot despite its rather remote location about 20 miles south of the Las Vegas strip and just outside Jean, Nevada.
According to a piece in the Victorville Daily Press, the Seven Magic Mountains installation was originally scheduled for a two-year residency in the desert, but due in part to its popularity, the exhibit was granted a three-year extension in 2018 by the Bureau of Land Management. However, negotiations are underway that would grant the art’s residency a five-year extension.
The bright boulders are stacked 30 feet high and reportedly cost $3.5 million to install.
