Glacier National Park Moves to Ticketed Entry This Summer

According to an email from the Glacier National Park Conservancy, the park is adding a temporary ticketed entry system for the Going-to-the-Sun Road starting this summer.

National Park visitation continues to grow in popularity, and as such, congestion in some of the country’s biggest National Parks has forced the National Park Service to evaluate ticketed entry at highly-trafficked locations.

Glacier National Park will require ticketed entry at the West Glacier and St. Mary Entrances from 6am-5pm MT daily. The ticketing system will be in effect from May 28 to September 6, 2021. Tickets will be available for purchase online at Recreation.gov beginning April 29 and cost $2. This ticket is in addition to the standard park entry fee.

Not all entrances to the park will be ticketed. Entrances to the park at Many Glacier, Two Medicine, Polebridge, or along U.S. Highway 2 will not require an entry reservation ticket. Also, for those with reservations at lodging sites, campgrounds, or concessionaires inside the park – including boat rides, bus tours, horseback rides, or guided hike reservations, a ticket to entry is already included.
